The York University women’s water polo team won the Ontario University Athletics championship Sunday afternoon at Queen’s snatching the title back in a 6-5 gold medal game against two-year reigning McMaster champions. This is York’s fifth championship in seven years.
York snapped McMaster’s unbeaten streak with a 5-2 victory in the round-robin portion Saturday afternoon, defeated Queen’s 4-3 and Carleton 10-4 to finish first in the round-robin with a 3-0 record. In the gold medal game Sunday, York would avenge last year’s championship final loss to McMaster with a 6-5 victory.
