At its 498th meeting held on April 22, 2003, the Senate of York University:
Approved, as recommended by the Senate Executive Committee:
- a slate of candidates to stand for election to fill the vacancies on Senate Committees for three-year terms beginning July 1, 2003, and ending June 30, 2006;
- a slate of candidates to stand for election to fill the three senate seats on the Search Committee for a New Chancellor;
- a slate of candidates to stand for the senate nomination to the University Board of Governors;
Approved, as recommended by the Senate Committee on Curriculum and Academic Standards:
- establishment of a Graduate Diploma (Type 2) in Health Services and Policy Research, Faculty of Graduate Studies;
- establishment of a Bachelor of Science (Specialized Honours) degree program, Biochemistry, Faculty of Pure and Applied Science;
- establishment of a Bachelor of Arts degree program in Cognitive Science, Faculty of Arts;
- changes in degree programs in Classics and Classical Studies, including the addition of a 90-credit Bachelor of Arts degree program in Classics, and discontinuation of the degree programs in Greek and Latin, Faculty of Arts;
- establishment of a Bachelor of Arts degree program in Hellenic Studies, Faculty of Arts;
- discontinuation of the Coordinated Program in Business, Public Policy and Administrative Studies, Faculty of Arts;
- changes to degree requirements in the Film and Video Program, Faculty of Fine Arts;
- changes to degree requirements in the Graduate Program in Theoretical and Applied Linguistics, Faculty of Graduate Studies;
- changes to degree requirements in the BASc Computer Engineering Program, Faculty of Pure and Applied Science;
Noted a report for information from the Senate Committee on Curriculum and Academic Standards on changes to the degree requirements for the Bachelor of Environmental Studies degree program;
Noted a report for information from the Senate Committee on Teaching and Learning announcing the recipients of the Parents Association University-Wide Teaching Awards for 2003:
- Walter Whiteley, Mathematics & Statistics, Faculty of Arts (senior full-time);
- Michaela Hynie, Psychology, Atkinson (full-time);
- Patrick Phillips, Philosophy, Faculty of Arts (contract/other);
- Frances Latchford, Philosophy, Faculty of Arts (teaching assistant);
Noted a report for information, on new awards approved by the Senate Committee on Admissions, Recruitment and Student Assistance;
Noted a report for information from the Senate Academic Policy & Planning Committee on:
- summary of issues and proposed actions arising from the academic planning forum;
- an upcoming report on Faculty responses to the Call for Plans;
- upcoming informal consultations on York-CAAT Relations.
