York minds develop award-winning educational software

Distinguished Research Professor Gareth Morgan (left), co-director of York’s Schulich School of Business PhD Program, and Jean Adams (below, right), York PhD candidate at Schulich, set their minds on developing revolutionary interactive learning software for MBA students – and came up with a winner.

Their NewMindsets Inc. software won a Canadian e-Content Award from the e-Content Institute in the educational category. It was one of 10 awards presented recently by the institute, an independent organization dedicated to advancing the interests of Canadian developers, creators and users of e-content products and services.

“As an e-learning product, NewMindsets is quite stunning,” said Juanita Richardson, Chair of the judging committee of industry experts and users of e-Content products.

NewMindsets has a substantial leg up on the usual style, Richardson said. As a learning tool, “it is quite stunning – polls, checklists, note keeping, bulletin board topics, tables, illustrations, case studies and much more.”

The Schulich School of Business has been an active sponsor of the NewMindsets project and its use in combining the best of classroom and online learning methodologies. The winning software is a “second generation” e-learning content system by NewMindsets, Inc., which is based in Chicago and Toronto.

Morgan is leader of the NewMindsets team developing the educational software. “We’re delighted to receive this special recognition for the way we have blended the best in technology and innovative content design to provide powerful learning experiences for people interested in developing their leadership and management abilities,” he said.

“Increased learning leads to increased individual and organizational capability, and is the surest route to enhanced performance,” Morgan said.

The NewMindsets learning system was also awarded a brandon-hall /On-line Learning Magazine “best practice in e-learning award” in September 2002.
