Ross award goes to York law student

York honours BA alumnus Antonio Di Domenico (left), who has just completed his first year of a bachelor of laws degree at York’s Osgoode Hall Law School, is the recipient of the 2003 Murray G. Ross Award. He was selected by the Senate Committee on Admissions, Recruitment and Student Assistance (SCARSA).

The Murray G. Ross Award is given to an undergraduate with academic distinction and notable contributions to campus life. As recipient, Di Domenico shares this honour with York alumnus and well-known astronaut Steve MacLean.

In a letter to Di Domenico, SCARSA Chair Patricia Bradshaw said, in part: "Members of SCARSA were greatly impressed by the quality of your academic achievements and by your extraordinary contributions to the life of the University. Those who wrote in support of your nomination were glowing in their praise of contributions to governance at York, including as Chair of the Student Centre Caucus, vice-chair of the Student Centre Board and student representative on the Board of Governors.

"In all these roles you were noted for your steady leadership and ability to further discussion. In addition you have a stellar academic record, graduating summa cum laude with a BA Honours double major in political science and law and society."

Di Domenico said he was "humbled to be recognized for such a prestigious honour. I am indebted to York University for providing an avenue for student leadership and for all the wonderful friendships I have made along the way."

Murray G. Ross (right), after whom the award is named, was the founding president of York University.
