Do people at York want better bus service to the University? The answer’s a foregone conclusion. With more than 85 per cent of York’s 45,000 students, faculty and staff commuting to campus from homes in the GTA, transportation in general is never far from York people’s minds.

Now’s your chance to have some input in discussions scheduled by the Toronto Transit Commission about improving bus service to the University.

TTC officials are holding meetings to discuss why they believe improvements to transit are needed now, explain the environmental assessment study process, and get the York community’s and the public’s comments on TTC proposals. Officials will be on hand to answer questions.

Here is the schedule:

Monday, June 16: Open House at York Lanes from noon to 4pm.

Tuesday, June 17: Open House at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, 948 Sheppard Ave. West, from 6pm to 7pm. A presentation will be given at 7pm. (Location is north side of Sheppard, half a block east of Downsview Station.)

Currently, the TTC and the City of Toronto are evaluating measures to significantly improve the speed and reliability of the bus services between Downsview Subway Station and York University. Although the ultimate plan for this corridor is to extend the Spadina Subway to York, they believe there is a need for immediate improvements to existing bus services.

They are conducting an environmental assessment study to evaluate the benefits of bus-only lanes and other possible approaches, to see how these measures could affect road users, adjacent properties and the natural environment.
