York is sporting some new award winners. Read on to see who got what.


Transportation idea worth $10,000


On June 22, York’s Security, Parking & Transportation Service department won $10,000 – the 2003 Quality and Productivity Award from the Canadian Association of University Business Officers (CAUBO). It was presented to Andy Wickens, assistant vice-president, Campus Services & Business Operations, who represented York University at CAUBO’s annual conference in Halifax this year. York’s winning submission included its transportation demand management plan and relationship with Black Creek Regional Transportation Management Association.


His number is up – to $1,000


Professor Jianhong Wu (right), York Canada Research Chair in Applied Mathematics, Department of Mathematics & Statistics, is this year’s recipient of the Research Prize of the Canadian Industrial and Applied Mathematics Society (CAIMS). The award has a face value of $1,000, and “has been established to recognize innovative and exceptional research contributions in an emerging area of applied or industrial mathematics.” Wu delivered the prize lecture at the SIAM/CAIMS meeting in Montreal, which was held from June 16 to 20.
