York’s seventh annual welcome and welcome-back for students, the much-loved YorkFest, was even more popular than ever. Entertainers, service clubs, sponsors and students were in full force, with a few staff and faculty sprinkled in the crowds.
Coordinator of the event Ken MacLeod, programming and events manager for the York University Student Centre, commented: "YorkFest continues to grow, and this year's event was bigger and better than ever.... The YorkFest Village saw an increase of 20 per cent in tables for student groups and corporate partners, which resulted in the increase of visitors to the village throughout the day.
"The most notable additions to the event were the variety acts that catered to the growing diverse culture at York. The day was filled with various events to keep students entertained from beginning to end."
To that, Ross McMillan, executive officer of York’s Student Centre, added: "This year's YorkFest was the best one yet with a superb line-up of musical acts that spanned numerous musical genres and an amazing village with the most participants ever. We're hearing kudos all around from people who attended and who can't wait till next year."
