York Admissions rolled out the red carpet to prospective students at a mid-October Preview Party. York’s celebrity-style welcome evidently worked wonders – 85 per cent of respondents indicated in a follow-up e-survey that they were now more likely to apply to York, having visited the campus.
As part of this year’s extensive recruitment campaign, students were welcomed to the Saturday Keele campus event in a style usually reserved for movie stars. They walked the red carpet under a glamorous canopy, noted the stretch limo parked outside Vari Hall and enjoyed the party sounds of a steel-drum band.
Students were admitted into Vari Hall by staff posing as producers and directors, and were entertained by the York dance team, a magician and the new York Lions mascot. The Preview Party carried on throughout the day with free popcorn and special draws to win a limousine tour of the campus.
Students were invited to attend presentations by each of the faculties and schmooz with student service representatives at an information fair. York is U volunteers were on hand to add their own special brand of enthusiasm and Sport York got in on the act by providing everyone with free tickets to the afternoon varsity football game against the Ottawa Gee-Gees. (York won 25-17.)
Budding university superstars can still get into the act by attending York’s second Preview Party on Sunday, Nov. 9 from 9:30am to 2:30pm. Attendees are encouraged to register via Admissions’ new online registration system at www.yorku.ca/admissions.
