York University’s Theatre Glendon opens its 2003-2004 season of independent productions with Alice, written and directed by Glendon drama student Srimoyee Mitra. Alice’s premise is to question the constricted nature of fairy tales and people’s stereotypical views of the characters within them. The play opens with a girl named Celia who becomes weary of the monotony of daily life at a very young age. Her curiosity in searching for an alternative leads us into an enchantingly twisted Wonderland.
With its outlandish dreamscapes of songs and dances enhanced by a surreal stage design and a cocktail of characters from traditional fairy tales, Greek mythology and Indian history; Alice promises to be a colourful evening of intelligent entertainment, mad comedy and innovative creativity.
The production runs Wednesday, Nov. 26 to Saturday, Nov. 29, at 8pm in York Hall at Glendon College, 2275 Bayview Avenue.
