A man with extensive experience as a youth coach, Gerry Gentile, has been hired as assistant coach of the York Lions Women’s Soccer team. Gentile has been a Toronto area youth coach for almost 15 years and is the current head coach of the Vaughan Azzurri Girls 88 team, which he has guided since its inception in 1998.

During his time as head coach of the outdoor and indoor teams, the Azzurri have won six league titles and four Cup Championships. The team has also won 15 major tournaments, two Ontario Cup Silver medals and were ranked the number one under-15 girls team in Ontario last July by the Terra Power Rankings.

Gentile's coaching credentials include the Provincial B License in Canada, and the USA's NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) National and Advanced National diplomas. In 2001, Gentile was presented with the President's Award by the Canadian Soccer Association for his contributions as Chair of the CSA's professional soccer working group. He was also recognized and presented with his district association's President's Award in 2002 for his many years of volunteer work towards the development of the game as a member of the York Region Soccer Association.

Gentile is a successful businessman, co-founding the high-technology company, InTELaTECH Inc., in 1988. InTELaTECH had been named a Best 50 Managed Private Company by the Financial Post Magazine five years in a row, and was a Profit Magazine Top 100 Company three years running.

York Master Head Coach Paul James said he will put Gentile's extensive soccer background and strong business acumen to use as he works toward building the University's soccer structure into a first-class North American university soccer program.
