The York University 2003 United Way Campaign has exceeded its campaign goal. Donations and fundraising activities amassed over $180,000 and the Virtual “Y” is now filled to the top with a lovely shade of Yorkie red.

York University employees contributed $65,817.16 through payroll deductions. The Leadership Campaign contributed $104,540.00 and $5,744.00 was contributed by the York Univesity Foundation. Special events organized by volunteers in the York community raised $11,050.76.
“This outstanding achievement was made possible by faculty, staff, students and the York University Foundation through personal donations and special events,” said Danielle Chateau, community relations officer and the 2003 campaign Chair. “I’d like to extend a special ‘thank-you’ to staff members who dedicated themselves to canvassing and organizing special events.”
“It feels absolutely terrific,” said John Lennox, dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and the leadership Chair for the 2003 York United Way campaign. “I am very grateful for the response by people at York. We ask a lot of the community of which we are a part and it seems only appropriate that we give back to the community. We also have the good fortune that President Marsden has set a personal and institutional example by being so enthusiastically and consistently committed to the United Way at York and in Toronto.”
In total, York will be contributing $187,151.92 to the United Way.
“The generosity of people at York made this year’s goal a reality,” said Chateau. “The United Way is very grateful for the tremendous effort put forward by members of the York community and to the many sponsors who provided signs, prizes and other goodies.”
Through the success of this campaign, York has supported its larger community and the people – on and off campus – who require and use the services supported through the United Way and its agencies.
