World-renowned natural resources economist and author, David Brooks, will visit York on Monday, Feb. 9, to give a seminar presentation titled “Between the Great Rivers: Water in the Heart of the Middle East”. The seminar, hosted by the Faculty of Environmental Studies (FES), will take place from 12:30 to 1:45pm, 306 Lumbers Building.

A member of The International Water Academy based in Oslo, Norway, Brooks has authored numerous books on the issues surrounding water management. Recently retired after 14 years with the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Brooks is now the director of research for Friends of the Earth – Canada. He was founding director of Canada’s Office of Energy Conservation, director of the Ottawa Office of Energy Probe, and a principal with the firm of Marbek Resource Consultants Ltd. His main research interests lie in the linkages between environmental protection and the use of minerals, energy and water.
Among his books are Zero Energy Growth for Canada (McClelland & Stewart, 1981); Watershed: The Role of Fresh Water in the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (IDRC Books, 1994 – co-author); and Water: Local-Level Management (IDRC Books, 2002).
