Las Nubes coffee arrives this week

York University’s Las Nubes coffee, the "Coffee with a Conscience", arrives at Timothy’s World Coffee stores across Canada this week. Now, coffee drinkers looking for a quality brew that supports the farmer, the environment and bio-diversity will be able to respect the "triple bottom line" right to the bottom of their cup.

York launched the coffee in March and Timothy’s began shipping freshly roasted Las Nubes coffee from the its head office and roasting facility, located not far from the University’s Keele campus, to more its 140 stores this week. Timothy’s is donating $1 for every pound sold to the Fisher Fund for Neotropical Conservation through the York University Foundation.

Las Nubes brand coffee, grown on farms adjacent to York’s Las Nubes Rainforest in southern Costa Rica, is the product of a joint effort by researchers from York University’s Faculty of Environmental Studies working with the Tropical Science Centre in Costa Rica and local growers cooperative. The coffee is certified sustainable by Costa Rica’s Ministry of Agriculture, meaning it is grown in an environmentally, economically and socially responsible way. Producers employ methods that meet government standards for preserving the structure and function of the ecosystem, fair labour practices and bring a fair-trade price, or better, for the crop.
