With the countdown clock ticking down to “launch” time, there’s a feeling of excitement and anticipation for graduating students in the York/Sheridan Design Programs who are eager to make the transition from class to workplace.

The culmination of their schooling is the opportunity to ignite their huge engines of creativity at Launch, an exhibition at the Design Exchange in downtown Toronto. The exhibit starts today and will run until April 17.

The last four years for these designers have been like being on the space shuttle, carefully preparing and training for their next destination. Combining technical and creative skills, their graphic design projects on view in Launch will provide exhibition viewers with the opportunity to experience an exceptional sense of style in a contemporary context. Through their visual interpretations, these up-and-coming designers will influence how our world looks.

The Joint Program in Design, Ontario’s first Bachelor of Design degree program, provides a professional education in a humanistic context. It is offered jointly by York University and the Sheridan Institute of Technology & Advanced Learning, and students take courses at both institutions.

Now that the design departments of both York and Sheridan have each moved into new state-of-the-art facilities, this year’s design exhibition marks a significant new era for the Joint Program. The show demonstrates the symbiosis between the two design departments and how students benefit by getting the best from both schools.
