Anthony Garber and Mandy Upuu of the York University track and field team have been named to the team that will represent Canada at the 2004 North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Championships for athletes under 23 years of age. The event will take place in Sherbrooke, Quebec, from July 30 to Aug.1, 2004.

Garber, a third-year kinesiology and health science student won bronze at this year’s Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Championship in March. Upuu, who is enrolled in first year, is entering her second year of training with the Lions track and field team.
“The NACAC Championships are a high-level meet and a key learning opportunity for our best young athletes,” says NACAC Canadian team head coach Richard Crevier. “The championships allow them to focus on improving and maintaining their goals for the summer. We’re looking for everyone to perform lifetime bests since one of our biggest goals is the continued progress of our athletes at major events.”

Twenty-five men and 23 women have qualified for the championships. They have either achieved the NACAC standard, or they had the highest place finish at the 2004 Canada Dry Canadian Track and Field Championships held July 9-11 at the Canadian Sport Centre in Victoria, BC. All final selections were approved by the Athletics Canada selection committee.
