The York University Lions men’s and women’s soccer teams are both undefeated following Ontario University Athletics (OUA) action on the weekend. In men’s play, Paul Curcio, four-time OUA all-star and 2003 Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) All-Canadian, led the Lions with a pair of goals in Sunday’s 4-2 victory over Nipissing, while OUA all-star Michael Cipriani and Eugene Ishchak added singles. First-year goalkeeper Matt Balkanloo recorded the shutout and Francesco Maltifano scored the game’s lone goal in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Laurentian. Right: Paul Curcio Second-year goalkeeper Aurelia Gumiela registered the shutout for the women’s soccer team in Saturday’s scoreless draw with Laurentian. Ashley De Palma, Meghan Smith, Kyla Jones, April Noga and Kristy deVries scored for the Lions in Sunday’s 5-1 victory over Nipissing. The soccer teams will play at Toronto on Saturday and host Ryerson on Sunday. The Lions football team dropped to 0-2 with a 27-23 loss to Ottawa on Saturday. York will visit the Waterloo Warriors (0-1-0-1) on Saturday at 2 p.m. in a game that will be televised nationally on The Score television network. The cross country team kicked off the 2004 season this past weekend in Guelph. Women’s field hockey, women’s rugby, and men’s and women’s tennis open the season this weekend.
