Canada’s military will come under the microscope when the York Centre for International and Security Studies hosts a symposium organized by SDF-Net on Friday, Oct. 22 .
The day-long event, being held in 390/305 York Lanes, will bring together researchers and students of Canadian defence policy to consider new roles for a military facing significant change in a world of terrorism, new allegiances and increasing international obligations. The discussions will also consider how Canada’s armed forces are keeping pace with these developments and whether we can afford a standing military.

SDF-Net is a community of researchers in southern Ontario whose interests encompass international security, Canadian foreign and defence policy, and related issues. It was formed in November 2003 by the Centre for International and Security Studies at York University (YCISS) and the Laurier Centre for Military Strategic and Disarmament Studies at Wilfrid Laurier University.
The group brings together researchers from centres and programs supported through the Security and Defence Forum of the Department of National Defence and others to explore the possibilities for cooperative research, teaching, and outreach activities.
