Durie becomes the first York player to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season. The second-year running back from Mississauga broke the 1999 mark of 977 yards established by Jeff Johnson, now with the Toronto Argonauts. Durie ranks second in the nation with 1,238 yards and 14 majors this year, trailing only the McMaster University Mauraders’ Jesse Lumsden in both categories.

With the score tied 7-7 after 30 minutes of play, the York Lions exploded with five majors in the second half.

York, still in contention (3-4) for a playoff spot in the new OUA six-team format, hosts the number two ranked Laurier Golden Hawks on Oct. 23 in a game that will be broadcast nationally on the Score Television Network.

In other Lions news, both the men’s and women’s soccer teams can clinch first place in the North Division with a victory in the final regular season game this Sunday against Toronto.

The men’s and women’s volleyball teams as well as the women’s hockey team will open the 2004-2005 OUA regular season this week. The men’s volleyball team finished with a record of 14-4 last season and advanced to the OUA Championship final, while the women’s team finished third in the OUA East Division with a record of 9-8.

The women’s hockey team missed the playoffs last year but with the hiring of Dan Church, a new full-time head coach, York is committed to developing a perennial OUA and CIS contender.
