Four-time all-star and all-Canadian Ciara Gaizutis, right, of the York Lions women’s soccer team was named Ontario University Athletics North-South Player of the Year and a first team all-star in her final season. The fifth-year defender was a major factor in the Lions’ successful year in which they lost just one regular season game and allowed only four goals.
York’s Ashley DePalma was honoured as OUA North/South Rookie of the Year. DePalma, who was also selected a first team all-star, led the Lions with eight goals this season and was tied for fourth in CIS scoring.
Midfield Kristy deVries was named a first team all-star, while defender Natasha Jacinto was selected to the second team.
In field hockey, York’s Leanne Taylor, right, received the Gail Wilson Award, given to a veteran student-athlete who has made an outstanding contribution to the sport of field hockey. Taylor was also named a second team all-star, while teammate Nicole Zaharopolous was selected to the first team.
