York Lions soccer players Ciara Gaizutus and Paul Curcio, below, have been named All-Canadians by Canadian Interuniversity Sports at the national university sports organization's awards banquet on Wednesday.
A fifth-year defender from Maple, Ont., Gaizutis plays for the York Lions women's soccer team and was named first-team All-Canadian for the second time in her career. The Ontario University Athletics (OUA) North/South Player of the Year for 2004, Gaizutis is a four-time provincial all-star who played club soccer for Vaughan Azzurri.
Curcio, a midfielder for the Lions men’s soccer team, was named second-team All-Canadian for the second consecutive year. Now studying in York's Faculty of Education, Curcio has an honours BA in geography and is a five-time OUA All-Star.
The CIS banquet was held in Montreal, site of the 2004 men's and women's national soccer championships.
