Lineman Ntare Bainomugisha of the York Lions men’s football team has received the Russ Jackson award, given to the player who best combines athletics, academics and community involvement, reported the Toronto Star Nov. 11. The award is given by Ontario University Athletics. Bainomugisha, a three-time Sport York Excellence Award recipient, serves as a team mentor by assisting teammates with essays and assignments. He is completing his masters degree in education this year and is applying to the PhD program. Bainomugisha is in his third year as a residence don in Stong College.
