Arcanum Nonnock, an eclectic program of creative new dance pieces by York University’s graduate dance artists, will transport its audience to world locales while exuding piquant flavours and exotic aromas. With all the vibrancy and bustle of a street market, this “marché” of dance will unfold Nov. 18 & 19, offering a superb selection of traditional elements along with contemporary and improvised works.
“The title of the show means ‘a mysterious impulse’,” explained Troy Twigg, Catherine Carpenko and Leah Archambault, co-artistic producers of Arcanum Nonnock. “The name reflects the number of multicultural works that will be showcased, as well as the mysterious impulse of creation associated with improvisational pieces.”
The presentation features 12 original works by dance students currently enrolled in the two-year master of arts in dance program. The student choreographers are: Seika Boye, Susan Cash, Janelle Hardy, Troy Emery Twigg, Meaghan Giusti, Cathy Kmita, Ida Mehtafi, Aimée Dawn Robinson, Heather Saum, Su-Lin Tseng, Lisa Weiler and Sashar Zarif-Ravanbakhs.
