Glendon Musical Ensemble presents special tribute to war veterans

Nov 22, 2004

For its first concert of the 2004-2005 season, the Glendon Musical Ensemble presents “In Memoriam”, a concert commemorating the sacrifice of veterans of the great wars of the 20th century. The concert will take place on Nov. 24 and 25, 7:30pm, at Theatre Glendon.

posterThe program includes choral pieces, modern classical compositions, some of which were written for the cinema, as well as popular songs such as Brothers in Arms by Dire Straits and John Lennon’s Imagine, and some compositions by John Williams and Michael Kamen.

The choir and soloists, often accompanied by various instruments, will take centre stage but also leave room for some purely instrumental pieces. In addition, the directors chose to include some audio and video clips, as well as comedians, to illustrate veterans’ experiences. The selection of music was influenced by the sentiments associated with war, in order to communicate the hope of peace.

The Glendon Musical Ensemble is a changeable group, made up this year of about 20 musicians and 15 singers, eight of whom are also instrumentalists. The majority of the members come from the Glendon community: students, administrative staff, professors, alumni and friends. The GME was founded in 1999 by Glendon students, through the Cultural Affairs department of the Student Services office.

Seats are limited. Call the Theatre Glendon box office at 416-487-6822 to reserve tickets, which are free; however a donation of $5 is recommended. For more information, click here
