The York University women’s water polo team captured a silver medal at the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Championship following a hard-fought 3-2 loss to McMaster in the league final on Sunday in Ottawa.
The game was one of the lowest scoring in the 18-year history of the OUA Women’s Water Polo Championship. York had advanced to the final with an 11-7 semifinal victory over Carleton on Saturday.
York’s Christi Bardecki was named a first team OUA all-star, while Karin Shortreed, Jennifer Johnston and Julie Csikos were named to the second team. Jamie Burr of the Lions men’s team was also selected a second team OUA all-star.
The York University men’s and women’s volleyball teams head into the December break undefeated. Both teams improved to 10-0 with victories over Laurier and McMaster last week.
The men’s basketball team extended its winning streak to five games with wins over the Toronto Varsity Blues and the Ryerson Rams, while the women’s basketball squad has won four in row following wins over the Blues and Rams. Both teams close out the first half of the season with a home-and-home game with Laurentian University this weekend.
The Lions men’s hockey team split a pair of road games in Quebec, losing to Concordia 5-2 on Friday and defeating the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières 4-3 on Saturday. The women’s hockey team lost 2-0 to Toronto and 5-1 to the Queen’s University team.
