It’s a busy week for Sport York as seven of the Lions varsity teams are in action on campus.
The women’s hockey team will host the University of Toronto Varsity Blues on Wednesday (7:30pm) at the Ice Gardens. Goaltender Melanie Quinn made 30 saves in a 4-1 loss to Brock on Friday.
The men’s hockey team will play the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) number 10 ranked Waterloo Warriors on Thursday (7:30pm) at the Ice Gardens. The Lions are undefeated in their last six games and lead the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Mid West Division with a record of 8-5-4-1.
The women’s and men's basketball teams will each host Carleton and Ottawa on Friday and Saturday (the women will play at 6pm and the men at 8pm both days) at the Tait McKenzie Centre. The men’s squad sits in second place in the OUA East Division with a 14-4 record following wins over Ryerson and Toronto last weekend. The Carleton men enter Friday’s game in first place in the OUA East with a perfect 17-0 record – the two-time defending CIS Champions have not lost in 67 straight OUA/CIS games. Ottawa (10-7) is in third place in the OUA East.

The Lions women’s basketball team is in fifth place in the OUA East with a 9-9 record after defeating Ryerson and losing to Toronto last weekend.
The first place York men's and women's volleyball teams will host Western and Windsor on Saturday and Sunday at the Tait McKenzie Centre. The men’s squad, who suffered its first loss of the season last weekend at Queen’s, lead the OUA with a record of 14-1. The York women lead the OUA East, also with a 14-1 record. Saturday’s games are scheduled at 12pm for the women’s game and 2pm for the men. Sunday’s matches are set for 1pm for the women followed by the men, at 3pm.
The Lions track and field teams will host the 34th Annual York Classic this Saturday (10am) at the Toronto Track & Field Centre. York captured nine medals (4 gold, 3 silver, 2 bronze) last weekend at the McGill Team Challenge. York Female Athlete of the Week Paula McLaughlin finished first in the 600m at McGill. McLaughlin qualified for the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) Championships with a season best time of 1:32.41 and is ranked number one in Canada.
