Patrick Russell of the York Lions track and field team set a new Ontario University Athletics (OUA) and York record in the pentathlon at the OUA championships last weekend in Windsor, Ont.

The Lions finished fourth in the men’s competition and fifth in the women’s. York captured a total of six gold medals and four silver medals. The team, which features nine conference All-Stars, posted 14 personal-best and 12 season-best performances at the championships.
The number 10-ranked York men’s basketball Lions were eliminated from the post-season following a 79-67 loss to Ottawa in OUA East semi-finals on Saturday at the Tait McKenzie Centre. The loss took a bit of the lustre off of the announcement that the Lions’ Tut Ruach, right, was named OUA Rookie of the Year.
The York men’s hockey team will battle the No. 5-ranked Lakehead Thunderwolves in a best-of-three OUA quarterfinal this week. Game one goes Wednesday in Thunder Bay, while game two is scheduled for Saturday, 2pm, at the Ice Gardens. Game three, if necessary is Sunday, 2pm, at the Ice Gardens.
York’s women’s indoor hockey team will host the four-team OUA championship on Saturday at the Tait McKenzie Centre. York will face Toronto in the semi-final at 10am.
