Schulich students hold second Women in Leadership conference

Some of Canada’s top executives will take part in a conference organized by Women in Leadership, a student organization at York’s Schulich School of Business.


The one-day event is the second annual conference organized by the group and takes place Friday at Toronto’s Four Seasons Hotel, 21 Avenue Road, where speakers will examine the rewards and challenges facing women in their pursuit of leadership roles. Sponsored in part by the Women in Leadership Foundation, a national non-profit organization that partners with business and public sector groups to promote leadership diversity, the event features seven panel discussions covering a wide range of topics including finance, non-profit and health sectors, marketing, women on boards of directors, entrepreneurship, leadership styles and executive experiences. The conference is also sponsored by Human Resource Services Development Canada, TD Bank Financial Group, Hewitt Associates, Scotiabank and the Four Seasons Hotel.


Rebecca MacDonaldBecky McKinnonThe conference is designed to provide an opportunity to learn from the experiences of women in Canadian leadership roles and discover the common issues shared by women leaders.


The keynote speaker will be Rebecca MacDonald (left), CEO of Energy Savings Income Fund., who will speak at 8:45am following a light breakfast and opening remarks by organizers. Among the guest speakers will be Becky McKinnon (right), president of Timothy’s World Coffee, who was recently honoured for her company’s participation in York’s Las Nubes coffee project (see story in March 2, 2005 issue of YFile.)
