The fourth annual Women’s Voices from the Middle East half-day symposium on Diaspora, Islam and Gender MCRI Project will take place Thursday, March 10 from 2 to 5pm in the Harry Crowe Room, 109 Atkinson, Keele campus.
Key symposium presenters include:
, author and professor emerita, University of Illinois and Lebanese American University, who will present “From Bombs to Breast Cancer: The Politics of Sexuality for Arab Women”.
Shahrzad Mojab, director of the Institute for Women’s Studies and Gender Studies, University of Toronto and professor, Department of Adult Education and Counseling Psychology, OISE/University of Toronto, who will discuss “The Particularity of ‘Honour’ and the Universality of ‘Killing’: A Feminist Pedagogy”.
Amina Sherazee, a staff lawyer for the Downtown Legal Services, the University of Toronto’s student legal clinic, and LLM candidate at York University’s Osgoode Hall Law School, who will present “Muslim Women’s Human Rights in Canada and in Muslim countries”
Dorit Naaman, Alliance Atlantis professor of film studies, Queen’s University, who will present her documentary “Home, Bitter/Sweet Home” (2003).
