Five York staff members received special recognition for service to the University community at a dinner April 19 in The Underground restaurant. Friends, family and colleagues applauded as they received medals and awards from President and Vice-Chancellor Lorna R. Marsden. And the winners were… Suzanne Park (above, centre front ), assistant to the master of Norman Bethune College, pictured with family and friends, received the Ronald Kent Medal. The medal honours the dedication associated with the late Ronald Kent, a sincere and enthusiastic colleague who promoted and cultivated these qualities in others across departments, and who in his external contacts was a true ambassador for York. Scott Pope (above, seated centre front), director of Atkinson’s Counselling and Supervision Centre, is pictured above with several family members and friends after he received the President’s CPM Award. The award recognizes contributions above and beyond the call of duty, a high level of professionalism and commitment to the University community at large. Betty Hagopian (above, fourth from left) is the undergraduate program assistant in the Faculty of Arts’ Anthropology Department. Given to a receptionist or first-line-of-contact person at York, this award recognizes how essential to York the person is who answers the telephone first or greets the visitor first. Diane Jenner (above, centre), graduate program assistant in the Joint Program in Communications & Culture, Faculty of Graduate Studies, celebrates with her family, pictured above, as the winner of the Deborah Hobson Citizenship Award. Named in honour of the long-serving former vice-president enrolment & student services, the award recognizes energetic commitment and boundless enthusiasm for York University and its particular vision of higher education. Richard Pilkington (above, centre front), facilities manager for the Faculty of Science & Engineering, is seen here with his family and friends after he was presented with the Phyllis Clark Campus Service Award. Established in honour of a former vice-president finance & administration, the award is presented to a non-academic employee who has made exemplary contributions to York’s efficiency, cleanliness, safety, security and/or other campus or plant services.
