Osgoode Dean Patrick Monahan has announced the appointment of Nick Pengelley (right) as Osgoode’s chief law librarian. Pengelley’s appointment takes effect Sept. 1.
Pengelley brings to Osgoode more than 20 years experience in directing large academic law libraries in both Canada and Australia. Since 2001, he has been the law library director and an associate professor of law at Queen’s University in the Faculty of Law. Prior to that, he was librarian and acting executive director of the Centre for Innovation Law and Policy at the University of Toronto. From 1993 to 1999, he was the law library director at the Monash University Faculty of Law in Australia. He has prior library experience with the Australian Taxation Office, the High Court of Australia and the Legal Services Commission of South Australia.
Pengelley has both an LLM and a PhD from Monash University, a diploma in law from the Supreme Court of New South Wales, and a BA in Library Studies from the University of South Australia. In 2005 he was the faculty advisor to the Queen’s Faculty of Law team that tied Osgoode for fifth place in the Willem C. Vis Commercial Arbitration Moot in Vienna, Austria. He has written widely on issues relating to law librarianship and in 2004 received a feature article award from the Canadian Law Library Review.
“Nick is energetic, and very enthusiastic about coming to Osgoode,” said Monahan in an announcement to Osgoode faculty and staff on June 30. “I am confident that he will work diligently and with imagination to enhance the quality and reputation of our great law library. I look forward to his arrival in September.”
