Former chief of staff to Ontario's attorney general joins Osgoode

Patrick Monahan, dean of Osgoode Hall Law School announced that Julia Hanigsberg will be joining Osgoode for six months as the visiting professor of law and government.


Since Oct. 2003, Hanigsberg has been the chief of staff to Attorney General Michael Bryant.  She was also counsel and a senior advisor in the cabinet office of the Ontario government. She also served as a law clerk to York’s Chancellor Peter Cory during his time at the Supreme Court of Canada.


Hanigsberg received an LLM from Columbia Law School in New York. She was a Fulbright Fellow and held a SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship. After completing her studies, she worked as an associate in law, responsible for designing and implementing a new LLM curriculum for foreign students from civil law backgrounds. She also taught in the program for three years.


While at Osgoode, Hanigsberg will teach in the LLB program. She will also assist the school in its strategic planning process that is currently underway and will provide advice on special projects, particularly those involving the Ontario government.
