The York Centre for Asian Research (YCAR) is hosting the 2005 conference of the Canadian Council for Southeast Asia Studies at the Keele campus, Oct. 14-16.
Program committee members from York’s Faculty of Arts include sociologist Peter Vadergeest, director of YCAR, Lisa Drummond, professor of social science, Keith Barney, YCAR graduate associate from the Department of Geography, and anthropologist Judith Nagata, YCAR associate director.
The conference panels will look at three main themes: War, Conflict and Regional Politics; Economy and Ecology; and Revisioning Southeast Asia.
The conference, titled “Re-visioning Southeast Asia: Conflicts, Connections and Vulnerabilities”, is open to all and pre-registration, which includes a discounted conference fee of only $90 regular ($45 student) is due by Sept. 15. On-site registration is $130 or $75 for students. Program and registration information are available at the council’s conference Web site.
