The Toronto Transit Commission is holding an open house Oct. 6 from 1-5pm in York’s Central Square to consult the public on its preferred subway extension between Downsview Station and York Region’s transit gateway north of Steeles Avenue. TTC staff will display maps and invite comments on the six-kilometre route that includes a stop at York University Common.
The TTC is seeking reaction to specific details – subway alignment, station locations, bus terminals, commuter parking, passenger pick-up and drop off, entrances – on this latest blueprint. TTC staff would also welcome comments and suggestions about minimizing environmental impacts.
This is the third and final stage of the public consultation involved in the environmental assessment process. The completed assessment is scheduled to be submitted to Toronto city council in December.
“It is extremely important that the York community turn out to provide comments and express our support for the subway initiative,” said Ted Spence, senior policy adviser and executive director of York’s Office of Institutional Research & Analysis.
The latest version of the preferred route (see map below), on display Thursday, has been revised and fine-tuned based on public feedback from consultations last May at York (see story in the May 19 issue of YFile) and at a local high school. 
The proposed Spadina subway extension will feature stations at
- Sheppard West connecting with the GO Bradford Line
- Finch West at Keele
- York University Common
- Steeles West, an inter-regional transit station north of Steeles Avenue, with connections to GO Transit and York Region Transit as well as commuter parking
