The York Lions women’s soccer team carried its regular season success into the post-season, playing to a 3-1 victory over the Toronto Varsity Blues in the Ontario University Athletics quarterfinals. With the win, York advances to the OUA Final Four next weekend at Brock University in St. Catharines. York will play Queen’s in one semifinal at 3pm on Saturday, after Brock plays Ottawa in the other semifinal at 1pm. The winners of the two semifinals will qualify for the Canadian Interuniversity Sport National Championship in Edmonton, Nov. 10-13.
The men’s soccer team also advanced to the OUA Final Four with a pair of playoff victories last week. York scored three times in the opening half and weathered a late charge to defeat McMaster 3-2 in the first round of the OUA playoffs on Wednesday. The Lions then defeated Brock 1-0 in the quarterfinals on Saturday to qualify for the Final Four Championship this weekend hosted by the University of Toronto. York will face Carleton in the semifinals at noon on Saturday at the Ontario Soccer Centre in Vaughan. Toronto plays Western in the other semifinal at 2pm. The winners of the two semifinals will head to Charlottetown, Nov. 10-13, for the national finals.

York is the only school to have both its men’s and women’s teams qualify for the OUA Final Four.
The Lions’ field hockey team defeated the Queen’s Golden Gaels 1-0 to capture the bronze medal at the OUA Field Hockey Championship on Saturday in Ottawa. York’s Francesca Vondrejs scored the game’s lone goal, while Brittney Blount earned the shutout victory in goal. The Lions defeated Waterloo 1-0 in the quarterfinals and dropped a 1-0 decision to Guelph in the semifinals.
The CIS tenth-ranked women’s hockey team suffered its first regular season loss on Thursday, 3-2 against the ninth-ranked Guelph Gryphons.
The men’s hockey team has rebounded to win three straight after dropping its season opener. The Lions improved to 4-1 with victories over Toronto rivals Ryerson, 4-2, and Toronto, 2-0, last week.
The York women’s volleyball team recorded its first victory of the 2005-2006 OUA regular season with a 3-1 win over the visiting Ottawa Gee-Gees on Saturday afternoon at the Tait McKenzie Centre. The men’s volleyball team began defence of its 2004-05 OUA Championship with a 3-0 victory over Guelph on Wednesday. The women’s squad will have this week off while the men travel to Western and Windsor this weekend.
The Lions’ basketball teams will begin the 2005-2006 OUA season this Thursday when they host Laurentian at the Tait McKenzie Centre. Both teams won pre-season tournaments last weekend. The women went 3-0, including a 69-50 win over ninth-ranked Brock, as they won the Naismith Classic in Waterloo. The men were also 3-0, including a 68-58 win over second-ranked Brock, on way to the Raptors Invitational title.
