York’s Centre for Feminist Research will present a one-day conference titled, “Racialized Gendered Identities”, on Friday, Nov. 18, from 9:30am to 4:30pm in Room 305 (Senior Common Room), Founders College, on York’s Keele campus.
The mini-conference features a morning panel titled, “Gender and Faith Based Arbitration” and an afternoon panel titled, “Racism in the Media”.
Speakers at the morning panel include: Prof. Anver Emon, Faculty of Law, University of Toronto; Prof. Suzanne Drummond, Osgoode Hall Law School, York University and Niaz Salimi, president of the Muslim Canadian Congress. The discussant is Prof. Haideh Moghissi, Atkinson Faculty of Liberal & Professional Studies, York University.
The afternoon panel speakers include: Prof. Minelle Mahtani, Department of Geography, University of Toronto; Prof. Carol Tator, Department of Anthropology, York University; and Professor Suzie Young, Faculty of Fine Arts, York University.
The Centre for Feminist Research was established in 1991 to support, conduct and disseminate feminist research at York University. Since that time it has sponsored numerous seminars, lectures and conferences on subjects such as violence against women, gender, migration and health, spirituality, human rights and equity in education.
