The announcement of the award was made in December at the Tandem Mass Spectrometry Workshop, an annual conference for specialists in the field held in Lake Louise, Alta. Siu was also honoured in 2004 with the Gerhard Herzberg Award, given annually by the Canadian Society for Analytical Sciences and Spectroscopy (see story in the Sept. 13, 2004 issue of YFile. For more on the applications of Siu's research, see the April 13, 2005 issue of YFile.)
The Canadian Society for Mass Spectrometry is dedicated to the promotion of mass spectrometry and has more than 120 members involved in mass spectrometric research & development in university, industrial and governmental laboratories.
The Lossing Award recognizes significant contributions made to mass spectrometry by a Canadian and commemorates the achievements of Fredrick P. Lossing, who significantly enhanced the modern technique of mass spectrometry in the years after the Second World War.
