The Leading Learning 2006 conference kicks off today

For the second year, Leading Learning 2006: An E-Learning Conference, will be held in the TEL Building on York's Keele campus today and tomorrow.

Conference keynote speakers include Tom Wujec (left), author of Return on Imagination Fostering Imagination through Technology in an Accelerating World and Mitchel Resnick (below right), a professor at the MIT Media Laboratory - Sowing the Seeds for a More Creative Society. Both are dynamic speakers whose presentations are a must-see for educators who combine technology with teaching to enhance student learning.

There will also be concurrent sessions featuring presentations which focus on the conference theme, "Engaging the Learner", which is broken down into four streams: new technologies, innovations, pedagogy: elementary and secondary, and research. A new feature of this year’s conference is the poster session featuring displays and demonstrations of ways by which technology is being used in teaching. There will also be exhibitor booths which feature various products that can help educators enhance the students' learning experience. Door prizes are also being given away at the end of the conference, courtesy of the contributions of sponsors and exhibitors.

Members of the York community are invited to drop by and participate in this interactive event. The conference is focused on connecting teachers and students through information communications technologies (ICT). Its goal is to share current best practice, exploring future initiatives and evaluating recent research. Leading-edge e-learning programs, technologies, and the effective best practices presented at this conference will provide participants with opportunities to interact, network and engage.

The Leading Learning 2006 Conference is hosted by the Leading Learning Consortium consisting of York University, Trillium-Lakelands District School Board, Peel District School Board, Toronto Catholic District School Board, York Region District School Board and The Learning Partnership.
