Leblanc, a professor of corporate governance in the Atkinson Faculty of Liberal & Professional Studies, gained unprecedented access to North America’s most powerful companies and his findings have significantly influenced the rules surrounding corporate governance. His research is the subject of the recent book, Inside the Boardroom: How Boards Really Work and the Coming Revolution in Corporate Governance (May 2005), which he co-authored with James Gillies, professor emeritus of policy and founding dean of what is now York’s Schulich School of Business.
Tomorrow, March 8, at 6:30pm, York’s Atkinson Faculty of Liberal & Professional Studies will present a special lecture by Leblanc, titled “Enhancing the Effectiveness of Your Board”. Leblanc will offer an overview of his research and his new classification scheme for identifying and selecting types of directors which he calls the “10 Cs” of director behaviour. Included in his lecture will be information on addressing the myths about board and individual director effectiveness; board leadership, director competencies and behaviour; an overview of new Canadian regulatory requirements; and a host of other intriguing information. He will also offer insight into the quest for new approaches into diagnosing and benchmarking board effectiveness and its possible relationship to corporate financial performance.
This free, one-hour event is part of a special lecture series presented by Atkinson Dean Rhonda Lenton. The presentation will take place in Vari Hall “A” and is open to the public.
