Four employees recognized for their contributions to York

Four York employees were honoured recently at a special dinner presentation of the 2005 President’s Staff Recognition Awards. The awards, preceded by video tributes, were presented by President and Vice-Chancellor Lorna R. Marsden as family and colleagues looked on.

Aileen Rakocevic, administrative secretary at Glendon’s School of Translation, won the Ronald Kent Award for personal commitment and dedicated service to the University. Rakocevic has worked at York for almost 21 years and held her current position for 12 and a half years. The award was established in 1979 in memory of Ronald Kent, an enthusiastic colleague and true ambassador for York.


Gwyn Buck, executive assistant to the dean, faculty council and policy committee in the Faculty of Arts, won the Confidential and Professional Management Award. She has worked at York for 21 years and has held her current position for eight. The CPM Award honours an individual who contributed more than required of her position and performed at a high level of professionalism.


Cathy Genua, coordinator of student academic petitions for the Atkinson Faculty of Liberal & Professional Studies, received the President’s Voice of York Award. The award goes to a receptionist or first-line-of-contact person known for her quality of response to first-time callers or visitors to York. Genua joined York eight years ago and has held her current position for the past two and a half years.


Andy Starostecki, millwright in Facilities Services for 24 and a half years, won the Phyllis Clark Campus Service Award, presented to a non-academic employee who has made exemplary contributions to the efficient, clean, safe and secure operations of campus or plant services.
