The York University Senate and Board of Governors have established a new Faculty of Health which came into existence on July 1. Students registered in one of the programs moving to the new Faculty of Health will automatically be transferred on Aug. 7. Course enrolments and academic records for all students in the affected programs will be transferred to the Faculty of Health To facilitate the transfer, online student services including online enrolment, list of courses and grades, transcript ordering, student account statements etc. will be shut down on the August long weekend. For more information on the shut down, click here.
After the transfer occurs and until further notice, students should continue dealing with their original Faculty or program office for answers to advising questions such as course selection, degree requirements for graduation, averages to continue in their program, and academic petitions and appeal processes.
Students should make note of the following important components affecting their student representation and health plan.
- Students transferring from Atkinson to Health
Students in the Atkinson Faculty of Liberal & Professional Studies transferring to the Faculty of Health will now be represented by the York Federation of Students (YFS) and will be charged a levy of $.64 per credit. The levy of $1.82 per credit to the Atkinson Student’s Association will no longer be collected. YFS has designated a councillor position for the Faculty of Health and will be appointing an interim councillor in the fall term.
The Faculty of Health has established a Faculty Council with student representation that transferring Atkinson students may wish to serve on.
The student health and dental plan coverage for students in the Faculty of Health will now be carried out by YFS. There are differences in eligibility, fees and coverage from the Atkinson plan and students should make themselves aware of these changes. The YFS Web site has full details. The existing Atkinson health and dental plan coverage will last until Aug.31.
If students are eligible for the YFS health and dental plan (i.e. enrolled in 15 or more credits), they will need to opt out even if they have existing coverage. Students must opt out of the YFS plan even if they have previously opted out of the Atkinson health plan.
- Students transferring from Arts or Science & Engineering to Health
For students in the Faculty of Arts or the Faculty of Science & Engineering, their representation by the YFS will not change. YFS has designated a councillor position for the Faculty of Health and will be appointing an interim councillor in the fall term.
The Faculty of Health has established a Faculty Council with student representation that transferring students from the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Science & Engineering may wish to serve on.
