One hundred and fifteen people rolled up their sleeves and gave the gift of life. They donated 90 units of blood at the Canadian Blood Services clinic held at York July 19-21, enough to help up to 270 patients.
The three-day clinic met its goal by 93.7 per cent. “We did very well, considering it’s summer time,” said Lilet RaffiƱan, clinic recruitment coordinator for Canadian Blood Services.
Each unit of blood can save up to three lives, so York donors have helped up to 270 patients, estimates RaffiƱan.
York hosts four blood donor clinics every calendar year in the East Bear Pit, Central Square. The next clinic will be held in November at York’s Keele campus. The clinics are hosted by Health Education & Promotion, in York’s Centre for Student Community & Leadership Development.
