With the 2005-2006 Lions, he had three goals and four assists in 16 games. Over his three-year career at York, McKenna compiled 35 points in 59 games for the Lions. A solid two-way player, the 6-foot-1, 220lb forward was an aggressive forechecker, finishing third on the team two years ago with 100 hits.

In 2003-04, McKenna helped York capture the Queen’s Cup and advance to the Canadian Interuniversity Sport National Championship. In the summer of 2004, McKenna joined the Newcastle NorthStars of the Australian Ice Hockey League where he posted 19 points in 19 games, adding 14 penalty minutes and finished with an impressive +25 rating.
