York students attempt to stump the Trump

Three York University students will participate in a nationwide business challenge, the Impact Apprentice. Starting today and running until Sept. 29, the competition takes place in Ottawa and is based on “The Apprentice”, the popular television series presided over by business mogul Donald Trump. The Impact version is a nationwide Canadian competition with an educational focus.

Impact Apprentice will showcase teams of Canadian university and college students competing in a series of sales, marketing and management challenges. Throughout the competition, students will have the opportunity to demonstrate their application of business skills relating to leadership, management and teamwork.

The three York students were selected to compete in the Impact Apprentice finals from over 300 students who originally applied for the 32 spots in the competition. They are Schulich students Katrina Alton, Michal Brosh and Aaron Smith. York is one of 17 universities and colleges represented in the competition, in which contestants will compete for $10,000 in prizes.

The closing banquet of Impact Apprentice will feature York alumnus Brent Buckman (BA ‘99), the first Canadian to star on Trump’s “The Apprentice”. Buckman will assist in announcing the winners of Impact Apprentice in Ottawa on Sept. 29.

Impact was founded at the University of Waterloo in 2004 by a software engineering student, Kunal Gupta. For more information about the competition visit the Impact Initiative Web site.
