The York Leadership Retreat, organized by Student Community & Leadership Development, is designed to bring out the leader in York students. Leadership skills will be developed through outdoor adventure activities, team building events, interactive speakers, group problem solving situations and student led sessions. Students will have the opportunity to learn leadership theory and practice outside the classroom. Participants are provided with a safe space to learn from fellow student leaders in a one-to-one ratio.

The retreat's main objective is to provide an exciting cocurricular opportunity for York students.

Great leadership requires a balance between work and play. There are several sporting activities planned, including broomball, a games room, a sports barn, and possibly a skating rink (bring your own skates). There’s a dance party option and, of course, free time to play as you please with your new friends in leadership.

The Leadership Retreat is a two-night, three-day leadership adventure at Geneva Park’s Centre for Leadership Excellence in Orillia, Ont. The bus departs from York’s Keele campus at 9:30am on Monday, Feb. 12, and arrives back at York around 3pm on Wednesday, Feb. 14.

All applications will be screened by the retreat planning committee. Preference will be given to current members of the Student Leaders at York Association, student clubs, student governments, York is U and York varsity team athletes.

If you have any questions, e-mail Jeremy Greenberg at jeremy@yorku.ca. An online application is available on the retreat Web site. Applications must be submitted before the deadline of 5pm on Friday, Jan. 19. Space is limited and going fast.
