All five starters reached double-figures in scoring as the underdog York men’s Lions upset the No.1-ranked Carleton Ravens, 95-81, Saturday, in Ottawa. The win was York’s second over a Canadian Interuniversity Sport top-10 team this month. On Jan. 13, the Lions upset the then No. 5-ranked Ottawa Gee-Gees, 64-61.
Captain Dan Eves led the way for York against Carleton, posting 24 points, six assists, five rebounds and two steals. His shooting was almost perfect on the night, hitting 7 of 8 from the floor, 5 of 6 from three-point range and 5 of 6 free throws in 36 minutes of action.

Third-year guard Tut Ruach had a team-high 26 points, while Jordan Foebel added 16 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Fellow York starters Rohan Steen and Amde Evans added 15 and 10 points, respectively.
The Lions shot 49.2 per cent from the floor as a team and 44.4 per cent from three-point range. At halftime, York led 61-22 over the four-time defending national champions.
For Carleton, reigning CIS MVP Osvaldo Jeanty had a game-high 30 points, while Stuart Turnbull added 17 points and Aaron Doornekamp posted 15.
The victory marked York’s first regular season win over the Ravens in 11 tries and was Carleton’s second loss this week. On Jan. 23, the now ninth-ranked Ottawa Gee-Gee’s snapped the Ravens’ regular season unbeaten streak with a 64-62 upset win in front of a CIS-record crowd at Scotiabank Place.
York improved to 10-6 on the year with the win, while Carleton falls to 15-2.
The Lions return home to face the Royal Military College Paladins on Friday, Feb. 2, before hosting the Queen’s Golden Gaels at 8pm on Saturday. Feb. 3, for the Fourth Annual Staff, Faculty and Alumni Appreciation Night at the Tait McKenzie Centre.
