Clarinetist Patricia Wait will be the featured artist on Feb. 22 in the third concert of the York University 
Music Department’s Faculty Recital Series. Joining her in a performance of 19th- and 20th-century European chamber music will be her faculty colleague Mark Chambers on cello and guest artist Elizabeth Acker on piano.

Wait has selected some of her favourite music for the occasion. The concert will open with Alla Gitana, a romantic piece scored for piano and cello by French composer Paul Dukas, followed by the lively Capriccio for solo clarinet by Swiss composer Heinrich Sutermeister, and French composer Camille Saint-Saëns’ Sonata for Clarinet and Piano in E flat major. Rounding out the program is the Trio for Piano, Clarinet and Cello in A minor by the great German master, Johannes Brahms.
Praised by the Toronto Star for her "warm, glowing and colourful expression", Wait is a seasoned and versatile performer with extensive credits as a soloist, orchestral and chamber musician. She has appeared with many leading Canadian artists and ensembles, including pianist Anton Kuerti and clarinetist James Campbell, the St. Lawrence, 
Prague and Purcell String Quartets, and the Canadian Opera Company Orchestra. She is a professor of performance studies in York’s Music Department.

Chambers is a cellist, conductor and early music specialist. He has performed widely in the United States and Ontario as both a chamber musician and orchestral player. He joined York’s Music Department last year, where he directs the Baroque Ensemble and the York University Symphony Orchestra. Recent appearances include the York University Piano Trio with pianist Christina Petrowska Quilico and violinist Heather Chambers.
Acker (BFA ’97), a Toronto-based chamber musician, is equally at home in classical and contemporary music, jazz and musical theatre. Her performance credits include Esprit Orchestra, Arraymusic, Niagara Symphony and the Severn Players, as well as keyboards for The Phantom of the Opera.
The concert takes place Thursday, Feb. 22, at 7:30pm in the Tribute Communities Recital Hall in the Accolade East Building. Tickets are $15 and $5 for students.

The Faculty Recital Series is a new feature in the annual season of public events presented by York University’s Music Department. The final concert in the series is on March 8 with pianist Casey Sokol, a specialist in contemporary improvisation, and guest Andrew Craig (BFA ’93).
