As the first Canadian university to home deliver offers of admission to top applicants, York dispatches representatives to extend personal congratulations to those students and their families in their homes. The home visits provide a personal and customized offer experience for future students.
This year, in partnership with the Faculty of Arts History Department, the Office of Admissions piloted a calling campaign to a target group of high achievers. Top history applicants received an e-mail survey, offering them "tele-counselling" with a history professor, a current student or an admissions adviser. Unlike other universities who make calls, student feedback suggests that York’s approach is more effective, beneficial and fruitful as students and their families had time to discuss and prepare questions prior to the appointment.
This coming weekend, York kicks off its annual March Gala with the "Circle of Scholars" breakfast for the best-of-the-best students. This celebration rewards top achievers with an exclusive opportunity to mix and mingle with Marsden, Vice-President Students Rob Tiffin, senior professors and peer scholars. Karen Weisz, a third-year student in the Faculty of Science & Engineering, will share her reasons for choosing York and her plans for graduation with the class of 2009. After breakfast, applicants will join the Keele campus March Gala.
For the thousands of expected visitors, York’s March Gala, offers applicants the perfect way to experience York. Applicants and their family spend a day on campus, delving into student life through campus and residence tours, chatting with professors and current students, exploring Faculty Zones and programs of choice, visiting classrooms, labs and studios, and speaking with experts about money matters and financing university education.
The Keele campus March Gala will be held Saturday, March 10, from 10am to 2:30pm and the Glendon Gala happens the next day, Sunday, March 11, 10am to 2:30pm.
