Stong College is celebrating the arrival of spring with a poetry reading by four York professors March 27 from 4:30 to 6:30pm in the screening room, Stong 112.
Poetry’s Everywhere: A Celebration of Spring features readings by the following poets:
- Hédi Bouraoui, French professor emeritus and Stong writer in residence, is considered an iconoclastic poet committed to experimentation. He has written 18 books of poetry and numerous novels, which have received international acclaim, particularly in France, Canada and North Africa.
- Margarita Feliciano, professor emerita in Glendon’s Hispanic Studies, is an Italo-Argentinian poet whose works are well known in Hispanic-Canadian circles;
- Patricia Keeney, English and humanities professor, published her first book of poetry, Swimming Alone, in 1988. In 2003, her Selected Poetry won the prestigious Jean Paris Prize for Best Volume of Poetry in French translation. Her poetry has also been published in Bulgarian, Hindi and Chinese, with individual poems translated into Spanish and German.
- Andrew Weaver, English professor, writes poetry that falls somewhere between the experimental and the lyrical. His first book of poetry, Were the Bees, was published in 2005.
