Senior students in the York/Sheridan Joint Program in Design offer a visual feast of cutting-edge design with their graduation show, just between us, available for public viewing today at the Fermenting Cellar in Toronto’s Distillery District.

The exhibition showcases years of intense work, with the students presenting their best projects from a wide range of assignments over the past four years. Exhibits include visual identity and branding solutions, environmental graphics, book design, typography, information design and new media.
Viewers will gain insights into the world of contemporary design, encountering the objects, images, ideas and people that are reconfiguring our spaces, shaping our consciousness and modifying the way we live in the world.
Who are today’s young designers? Here are some of the personalities you will meet at just between us: “I’m a designer and I laugh in Helvetica Neue,” “I’m a designer and comic sans-psych,” “I’m a designer and I eat challenges for breakfast,” and “I’m a designer and I find serenity in vectors.”

“Four years of study may seem like a short period of time in one’s life, but the influence of our graduates will be with us for a lifetime through their works,” said Wendy Wong, Chair of York’s Design Department. “The graduation show celebrates their talent and hard work, as they prepare for the next rewarding stage of their professional lives.”
These fresh young designers are not only presenting their work in the exhibition, they also conceived the theme and organized every aspect of the show, from designing the promotional web site and print materials, to soliciting corporate sponsorship, to installing the displays.
The public is invited to view just between us today, from noon to 3pm, at The Fermenting Cellar, 55 Mill Street, Building 58, Suite 200. Admission is free.

Established in 1999, the Joint Program in Design is Ontario’s first bachelor of design degree program. It is offered jointly by York University in Toronto and Sheridan Institute of Technology & Advanced Learning in Oakville, with students taking courses at both institutions.
