Men's hockey Lions welcome a Viper into the den

The York Lions have announced that Vaughan Vipers defenceman Trevor Waddell will play for the University’s men’s hockey team this coming season.

Trevor WaddellThe Mississauga native capped his junior career with the Vipers in the Ontario Provincial Junior-A Hockey League in 2006-2007 and finished the season as the team’s top-scoring defenceman with 43 points in 44 games. Before his year with the Vipers, Waddell spent parts of four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League, playing for the Plymouth Whalers, the Kingston Frontenacs and the Oshawa Generals. With the Generals in his final OHL season (2005-2006), Waddell had two goals, 16 assists and 97 penalty minutes, along with a plus-three rating.

“Our team is fortunate to add a player of Trevor’s ability,” Lions head coach Bill Maguire said. “He is a very reliable defenceman that moves the puck extremely well. More importantly, he is a leader and a good person who will be a benefit to our program for years to come.”

The Lions will begin training camp for the 2007-2008 season in September.
